In recent days, images of a traffic sign that is 'unknown' to the vast majority of Portuguese people have started to appear on social media, raising a question. After all, will it be possible to see it here?
We are talking about a white square with a five 'painted' in black. However, contrary to what you might think, this is not at all a reference to speed limits. It is, in fact, a mere informational sign, more specifically, a kilometer marker... which you don't have to worry about.
As the Spanish newspaper El País writes, this signage is exclusive to some American countries, such as Argentina, and its purpose is to make it clear which kilometer of a given road the driver is driving on.
In Portugal, these signs take on other colors, although in the case of a European route, they will be green.
