Fabio Di Giannantonio was the big name this Friday morning (11) in the MotoGP qualifying session at Sachsenring, at the German GP. The Italian from VR46 surprised by setting a time of 1min19s071 in the final moments and guaranteeing the best time of the session, beating Álex Márquez and Marc Márquez, who completed the top three.

Intense competition in the final minutes marked the end of the training session, with falls and comebacks in the top 10

The action began with Franco Morbidelli leading the first few minutes, followed by Francesco Bagnaia and Joan Mir. However, it wasn't long before Diggia came out swinging, clocking a time of 1:20.136 and taking the lead. Shortly after, Marc Márquez showed his pace and took the lead with a time of 1:19.812.

The session was full of crashes from the start. The first occurred with Marco Bezzecchi, who slid at Turn 13 with 51 minutes remaining. Fermin Aldeguer also crashed twice—the last in the closing stages of the session.

With 28 minutes remaining, Marc Márquez was the only one under 1:20, comfortably leading. Di Giannantonio, Acosta, and Bagnaia completed the top four at that point. The situation, however, changed in the final minutes.

With five minutes remaining, Álex Márquez surprised with a 1:19.408, but was soon surpassed by Di Giannantonio, who clocked 1:19.071 and finished the session ahead. Shortly after, Álex ended up crashing, as did Johann Zarco.

In addition to Di Giannantonio, Álex and Marc Márquez, the following also advanced directly to Q2: Fabio Quartararo, Pedro Acosta, Franco Morbidelli, Marco Bezzecchi, Jack Miller, Francesco Bagnaia and Brad Binder.

MotoGP qualifying is this Saturday at 5:50, and will be broadcast on Disney+ and ESPN4!
