News to the Minute

A total of 850,318 Ford and Lincoln vehicles have been recalled due to a possible low-pressure fuel pump fault.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the United States of America warns that this potential problem could lead to the engine stalling while driving - which poses an increased risk of an accident .

The recall follows customer complaints of a loss of power due to a fuel pump failure. This is more likely to occur with low fuel consumption or warmer weather and fuel consumption.

Several models are affected, including Lincoln models manufactured between 2021 and 2023. These include the Ford Expedition, Ford Explorer, Ford Mustang, Lincoln Aviator, and Lincoln Navigator. There are no known "accidents, fires, injuries, or property damage" resulting from this malfunction.

The NHTSA document, consulted by Auto ao Minuto , refers to the possible cause of the failure: "Loss of fuel pressure and flow due to low fuel pump pressure may be due to internal contamination of the jet pump, specifically in low fuel conditions, and reduced internal clearances of the fuel pump that result in increased internal friction and sensitivity to vapor lock."

Possible early warnings about the car's behavior are also described: "Poor engine performance (misfires or irregular operation), check engine light or a reduction in engine power."
