Mercedes announces the future of its drivers in F1

Mercedes announces the future of its drivers George Russell and Italian Kimi Antonelli. Both will continue as part of the Mercedes Formula 1 (F1) team for the upcoming season, the team announced in a statement on Wednesday, October 15, thus confirming its commitment to their continuity. The decision strengthens its sporting project, which combines the experience and maturity of the British driver with the talent and potential of the young Italian, considered one of the most promising drivers in motorsport.
"George and Kimi have proven to be a strong couple, and we're excited to continue working with them. It was always a matter of time before we could confirm it. "We wanted to handle it in the best possible way and make sure everyone was happy, and I'm happy we achieved that," said Mercedes CEO Toto Wolff.
"Our focus now is on the last six races of the year, where we fight for second place in the Constructors' World Championship and on 2026 with the new regulations," added the Austrian, whose team is second with a lead of 27 points over Ferrari and 35 over Red Bull, after McLaren secured the title at the beginning of October.
George Russell, winner of two Grand Prix titles this season, the last in Singapore, said he was "proud" to continue with the team next season and was looking forward to everything that lies ahead.
"I'm very proud to continue our journey together. I can't wait to see what's next, especially with one of the biggest regulatory changes in the history of the sport coming next year," he said.
"We're all incredibly focused on making this a success, and for me personally, I'll build on what we've achieved this season, which has been our strongest to date," he concluded.
For his part, rookie Kimi Antonelli, who had a string of F2 victories before his debut in the premier class earlier this year, acknowledged that he has learned a lot and is now a stronger driver.
"I've learned a lot in my first season, both in the good moments and the tough ones. All of them have made me stronger, not only as a driver, but also as a teammate," he explained.
