Stellantis Cargo Box BEV: the electric maxi van that revolutionizes professional transport is born in Atessa

Stellantis Cargo Box BEV: the electric maxi van that revolutionizes professional transport is born in Atessa

Stellantis Pro One, the division dedicated to professional vehicles of the automotive giant, has announced the start of production of the new Cargo Box BEV, the most spacious and versatile electric light commercial vehicle on the market. A decisive step towards zero-emission professional mobility, which is part of an industrial context already at the top of continental production.

With over 1.2 million square meters of surface area, the Atessa plant is not only the largest European center dedicated exclusively to light commercial vehicles, but is also a strategic production facility for the entire Stellantis ecosystem. The Large Vans of Citroën, FIAT Professional, Opel, PEUGEOT and Vauxhall are born here, which together dominate the European market with a share of over 30%. Now, with the Cargo Box BEV, the offer is expanded and electrified, confirming the innovative vocation of this center of excellence.

The new vehicle does not simply replicate an existing model in an electric key, but redefines its proportions and potential. Based on the Chassis Cab BEV version, the Cargo Box delivers 200 kW (270 hp) and a maximum torque of 410 Nm, powered by a 110 kWh battery that guarantees a range of up to 323 km on a single charge. The dimensions are impressive: 18.3 m³ of load capacity for the standard version, which becomes 20.5 m³ in the L4 variant, 4,500 mm long and 2,300 mm high. Space, power and autonomy: a trio that is aimed directly at transport professionals, increasingly oriented towards sustainable but concrete solutions.

A further step forward also comes on the charging front. Stellantis now introduces 22 kW AC charging as standard, allowing a complete cycle in just 6 hours. A silent but decisive revolution for those who work shifts and need a vehicle that is always ready in the morning. Time is a precious commodity, and Stellantis seems to have understood this well.

But the Cargo Box BEV is just the tip of the iceberg of a production process that has few equals. In Atessa, every day, an idea of a vehicle as a tailor-made tool takes shape. The site is able to manage over 2,500 variants, including engines, transmissions, trims and configurations: a true flexible production ecosystem, powered by a 15-kilometer-long assembly line and a paint shop aligned with the most stringent environmental criteria.

The absolute protagonist of this transformation is also Stellantis CustomFit, the program that allows each vehicle to be customized according to the specific needs of the customer. Whether it is a company fleet, campers, refrigerated vehicles or special setups, CustomFit intervenes already in the production phase, with a network of over 550 certified partners distributed throughout the world. The result? A vehicle ready for use, delivered via the official network and covered by the same factory warranty.

In 2024, conversions made with certified partners increased by 25%, while in-house customized units for large fleets doubled. A leap that demonstrates the growing centrality of tailor-made, no longer a luxury but an operational necessity for those who work on the move. It is not surprising that half of the production of Stellantis Pro One is now linked precisely to these transformations.

And if there is a segment where the company plays an undisputed leading role, it is certainly the recreational vehicle sector. Since 2006, Stellantis has collaborated with the main camper and motorhome manufacturers, and it does so with an open and innovative approach. It is in this context that BacktoBack was born, one of the most original solutions: the union of two driving cabins in a single chassis, simplifying logistics operations and reducing environmental impact.

Now the leisure universe is also opening up to electric. Stellantis presents a BEV range dedicated to RVs, anticipating the desires of a clientele increasingly attentive to sustainability, autonomy and comfort. A coherent move, considering that over 2 million campers sold in the last 20 years were built on a Ducato base. 75% of the European circulating fleet moves on a Stellantis product. And it is no coincidence that, for 17 consecutive years, the German magazine Promobil has awarded the Ducato as the best camper base vehicle.

“Our promise is ‘fit for any mission,’” says Arnaud Leclerc, Global Head of Stellantis CustomFit. And that promise seems to be more than kept. Between electric mobility, advanced customization, global support networks and industrial-scale production, Stellantis Pro One does not just offer vans, but complete operational solutions. And the new Cargo Box BEV is the most concrete emblem of this: a product designed to work, move, adapt and last.
