Tragedy in France: Borja Gomez, former Moto2 rider, dies on the track. He was 20 years old

Motorcycling mourns Borja Gomez . Engaged in the free practice of the European Stock 600, category of the Fim Junior GP, the Spanish rider, 20 years old, lost his life on the circuit of Magny-Cours, in France. A fatal accident with unclear dynamics. It seems, in fact, that Gomez fell due to an oil leak that made the asphalt slippery. Once thrown from his Honda, the standard-bearer of the Laglisse team was hit innocently by colleagues who came up behind him. The intervention of the doctors, however timely, was not enough to save Borja. The family and the team confirmed his death immediately after the accident.

The Laglisse team announced the tragedy with a statement on social media: "With all the pain in our hearts, we regret to announce that Borja Gomez passed away on the Magny-Cours circuit after a serious accident during the first free practice session of the European Stock Championship". The short statement continues: "Beyond his exceptional talent as a driver, we will remember Borja as the great person he was. His kindness and his smile will be eternal. We will always carry him in our hearts. On behalf of the entire Laglisse Team, we want to extend our condolences to all his family and friends in these difficult times we are going through. We love you, Borja. Rest in peace".

Gomez had a decent resume. Fifteen races in the MotoGP, all in the Moto2 class between 2022 and 2023, with the Kalex. The best result was twelfth place in the 2022 Valencia GP, supported by the Flexbox HP40 team. His performances were less brilliant in the following season with the Fantic team. Six races in the two seasons in Supersport, in 2021 and 2024, without any great flashes. 2025 seemed particularly favorable to Borja, leader of the standings in both the European Stock 600 and the Spanish Superbike championship. Relaunch projects extinguished by the tragic accident in France.
