Red Bull young driver Lindblad takes first comprehensive F1 test

According to Motorsport Italy, 17-year-old Lindblad, who is currently competing in Formula 2, will take to the track with his 2023 AlphaTauri car, the AT04, at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari track in Imola on Monday, June 23.
The test will be the young driver’s first full day in an F1 car after a limited 300km drive at the same track in February.
The news of the test comes just days after the FIA approved the granting of a super licence to Lindblad. Although Lindblad is not yet the minimum age of 18, the FIA approved the licence, stating that he has “recently and consistently demonstrated outstanding ability and maturity in single-seater series”.

The Imola test could be a key step in preparing Lindblad for a possible reserve driver role at either Red Bull or the Racing Bulls. With Max Verstappen currently one penalty point away from a race ban, another infringement at the Austrian GP could see him banned from a race.
Lindblad could also be considered as an alternative name if one of the four Red Bull-backed F1 drivers is unable to race due to injury or illness.
However, the real purpose of this particular test seems to be to prepare the young driver for one of the practice sessions he is expected to take the seat in later in the season. Under the updated rules, teams are now required to field rookie drivers in at least four practice sessions throughout the season.
The Imola test will provide Lindblad with a chance to gain experience in a relaxed environment. Kimi Antonelli, who took part in the first practice session for Mercedes at Monza last year, caused disappointment when he crashed in front of his home crowd. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said after that incident that Antonelli should never have been put in such a situation.
Lindblad currently sits third in the Formula 2 drivers' standings with two wins.
