Who will be Alpine's second driver? Briatore postpones announcement deadline

After announcing the contract extension of Frenchman Pierre Gasly , Alpine faced a new question: who will occupy the second starting seat in the team? Flavio Briatore , executive consultant of the team, stated that the decision will only be made in November and over the next few months all possibilities will be analyzed.

For most fans, the obvious choice would be Argentine Franco Colapinto , who took over the car from this year's Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix onwards, replacing rookie Jack Doohan . However, the young driver has struggled with the car – Colapinto has so far scored no points; the twenty points Alpine has earned in 2025 have been scored solely by Gasly.
Although it is not a promising scenario, the manager did not rule out the possibility of the Argentine being chosen for the 2026 season.
Among paddock speculation, Paul Aron , the team's reserve athlete who has already participated in FP1 sessions for Alpine and Stake Sauber , also appears as a strong alternative to occupy the second spot.
