MotoGP announced on Thursday morning (11) the suspension of the MotoE World Championship at the end of the current season. The decision was made jointly with the FIM (International Motorcycling Federation), after seven years of competition, given the difficulty of the electric category in presenting significant evolutions, without gaining space among fans and keeping up with the pace of the industry.

Despite competitive racing and good times on the track, the organization acknowledged that the high-performance electric motorcycle market has not evolved as expected. At the same time, manufacturers have focused their efforts on improving more efficient combustion engines and developing sustainable fuels.

According to the official statement, MotoGP is committed to leading sustainable practices, with plans to use 100% non-fossil fuels from 2027, increasing the 40% percentage already adopted since 2024. This measure reinforces the category's commitment to sustainability and the future of the sport.

FIM President Jorge Viegas recognized the commitment of those involved and highlighted the importance of the MotoE experience: "Despite joint efforts with Dorna, we didn't achieve our goals, and the electric motorcycle industry didn't evolve as expected. The racing was truly fantastic, and I'd like to thank all the riders and teams who competed in MotoE and, of course, Dorna."

Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports, added about the category's role: "MotoE has delivered incredible action on the track and crowned champions and winners, playing a valuable role in MotoGP's mission to innovate fearlessly and never shy away from doing something new. We remain attentive to public demands and market trends, and therefore believe this is the right time to put the project on hold. I thank everyone who has contributed to making MotoE a reality since 2019."

The FIM and MotoGP have stated that they will continue to monitor the development of the industry, reconsidering the return of the category in the future, if electric motorcycles or other sustainable technologies gain greater relevance.
