Golf GTI 2025: first batch sells out in Brazil and makes Volkswagen earn R$150 million

Golf GTI 2025: first batch sells out in Brazil and makes Volkswagen earn R$150 million

Having at least R$430,000 isn't enough to buy a new-generation Golf GTI . Besides the money, you need to comply with VW's exclusive policies: the customer is hand-selected (only those who have owned, or currently own, a GTS, GLI, GTI, Audi, or Porsche can buy it), and when reselling as a used car, the car must first be offered to the brand itself. The brand can then repurchase it or authorize its sale to third parties.

Golf GTI: sold out

However, these apparently weren't obstacles to the sale of the sporty midsize hatchback in Brazil. According to the German manufacturer, the first batch of 350 units reserved for Brazil sold out in the first weekend of sales. And, it's worth remembering: these cars won't arrive here until March 2026. For now, reservations are the only option, requiring a 10% deposit.

If the 350 Golf GTIs have already been reserved in two days, that means VW stands to pocket at least R$150 million for its newest sports car. However, at this stage, "only" R$15 million has been deposited into the manufacturer's account, as the down payment is 10% of the model's list price. The remainder, more than R$135 million, will only be paid once the cars are delivered to their (lucky) owners.

Since more than 400 people met the requirements to take home the new Golf GTI , there was no way around it: 150 more cars will be offered in the Brazilian market, in a second batch that the brand calls "exceptional" and "even more restricted." VW itself believes, however, that it will sell this additional batch within hours. All 500 units, including the first and second batches, will be imported from Germany in early 2026. Lucky are those chosen customers...

What is the New Golf GTI like?

The new Golf GTI is the brand's first car in Brazil to feature an illuminated front logo. Full LED headlights connected by a light bar and auxiliary "mini-headlights" in the bumper complete the front light cluster. Four color options will be offered: Pure White, Mythos Black, Moonstone Gray, and Kings Red.

The cabin maintains the tradition of checkered upholstery, contrasting with the 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.9-inch multimedia center. A panoramic roof, three-zone digital climate control, a heated steering wheel, a 480W Harman Kardon sound system, a 45W inductive cell phone charger, and adaptive cruise control are among the main standard equipment.

Its engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 245 hp and 37.7 kgfm of torque, mated to a seven-speed DSG (automatic dual-clutch transmission). With this setup, identical to the previous generation but improved, the sporty midsize hatchback accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds. Top speed is around 250 km/h. In Europe, its starting price is around 46,200 euros.
