Volkswagen Touareg to get new life as an electric car

Last August, rumors surfaced that the Volkswagen Touareg would end production in 2026 —after 24 years. Now, speculation is mounting that it will have an all-electric version by the end of the decade, reportedly the ID. Touareg.
It's important to note, first and foremost, that the end of production of the conventional Touareg is not official . In fact, in August, Auto ao Minuto contacted Volkswagen, which did not confirm (but also did not deny) the rumors.
Information about the ID. Touareg's arrival in the medium term is advanced by Automobilewoche. This comes at a time when Volkswagen has changed its naming strategy for electric vehicles . The acronym 'ID.' remains, but the numbers are now replaced by striking names.
This has already been confirmed with the all-electric ID. Golf , unveiled this month at the IAA Mobility in Munich—as will be the case with the highly anticipated ID. Roc. The ID. Touareg is believed to be the first to be based on the new scalable SSP platform (not the ID. Roc, which will be the electric T-Roc), with production in Bratislava, Slovakia.
In other words, if this is the case, the electric Touareg won't share its platform with the Porsche Cayenne, which will enter a new all-electric generation in 2026 based on the 800-volt Premium Platform PPE architecture. CarScoops reports that the Volkswagen ID. Touareg isn't expected to be introduced before 2029 .
It's worth noting that, since its original launch and throughout its three generations, the Touareg has been based on the same platform as the Cayenne. Something that seems destined to change with the electric versions of the VW Group's German models.
Two VW electrics postponed
This week, Handelsblatt reported that the ID. Golf and ID. Roc are unlikely to go into production before 2030. This is due to budget constraints and market fluctuations.
Both models will be produced in Wolfsburg, but the budget framework means that necessary interventions at the factory unit for the production of electric cars will have to be postponed .
