Facing a difficult financial situation, Nissan Motor is looking to sell its Yokohama headquarters. There's interest in acquiring it, for a price of hundreds of millions of euros.
According to Reuters, KJR Management offered around 90 billion yen (around 522.3 million euros) for the infrastructure.
This is the highest offer ever received, but negotiations to complete the deal are still ongoing, according to a source cited by Reuters.
Lease for 10 years
The Automotive News website writes that, at this moment, KJR Management and its owner KKR are studying how to finance the operation.
If this deal goes through, Nissan will not lose access to its headquarters, as the agreement provides for a ten-year lease to the manufacturer.
Nissan in a difficult time
This is a difficult time for Nissan from a financial point of view, with further large operating losses expected for the period between April and September of this year.
The restructuring is already underway, including, among other measures, the elimination of approximately 20,000 jobs. It will now have only ten factories worldwide, down from the current 17.
Affordable Chinese competition, a relatively aging model range, and the impact of US tariffs are some of the factors currently working against Nissan.
