MotoGP: Marc Márquez wins sprint in Catalonia and closes in on the title

This Saturday (06), the sprint race of the Catalan Grand Prix delivered strong emotions and had Marc Márquez as the big winner. The Spaniard started from third position, behind his brother Álex Márquez, pole position, and Fabio Quartararo, who completed the front row.
With this result, Ducati is officially the 2025 constructors' championship champion.
At the start, Álex held the lead, while Quartararo overtook Marc on the first corner to take second place. Shortly after, Marc lost another position, this time to Pedro Acosta, dropping to fourth. The comeback came on the second lap, with the eight-time champion overtaking Quartararo and Acosta to reclaim second place.
In the lead, Álex Márquez opened a seven-tenths lead over his brother, but Marc soon established a strong pace, widening the gap over Quartararo, who was in third. Meanwhile, the battles in the midfield were attracting attention. Acosta, Brad Binder, and Enea Bastianini engaged in an intense KTM battle for fifth place, which the Spaniard won. Further back, Luca Marini, Johann Zarco, Marco Bezzecchi, and Fermín Aldeguer battled side by side for eighth place.
With seven laps remaining, Jorge Martín and Franco Morbidelli were involved in an accident that will be investigated by race directors after the sprint. Shortly afterward, Aldeguer crashed in a corner, taking Bezzecchi with him.
The decisive moment came four laps from the checkered flag, when Álex Márquez crashed alone, handing the lead to Marc. Quartararo took second place, 1.437 seconds behind the Spaniard, also distancing himself from Fabio Di Giannantonio, in third, who was 1.335 seconds slower than the Frenchman.
Marc Márquez crossed the finish line first to claim his third victory at the Catalan GP, his first in a sprint race. The triumph also marked his 14th sprint victory this season, extending his lead over Álex, who is currently second in the championship, to 187 points.
MotoGP returns this Sunday at 9 a.m. with the main race, the Catalan Grand Prix. The action will be broadcast on ESPN4 and Disney+.
