F1: Vasseur urges Hamilton to calm down after self-criticism in Budapest

Ferrari boss Frédéric Vasseur urged Lewis Hamilton to remain calm in light of the difficulties he's faced in the first half of the season. In an interview with German weekly Auto Motor und Sport, the executive commented on the Briton's outbursts after the Hungarian Grand Prix, when the seven-time champion expressed frustration with the team's performance.
According to Vasseur, Hamilton has a habit of demanding too much of himself, which can affect the internal environment.
"Sometimes he's very hard on himself and even on the car. He needs to stay calm and remember that the first step has already been taken successfully," he said.
For the Frenchman, the pilot's public reaction is more intense than the stance he adopts in internal meetings.
The manager explained that, in the Budapest qualifying session, Hamilton was just a tenth behind the man who later took pole position.
"It's not the end of the world. What he conveys in interviews sounds harsher than it actually is. At the briefing, he's usually calm. It's just his way, and I don't see it as a problem," he added.
For Vasseur, Hamilton's demanding performance is a positive, as it demonstrates his determination to get the most out of himself and the team. The Frenchman compared the Briton to Nico Hülkenberg, the driver he drove in Formula 3.
"Nico was also extremely demanding, but he was always present and committed. It's the same with Lewis," he concluded.
Formula 1 returns between August 29th and 31st, with the Dutch GP.
