BYD King 2026 plug-in hybrid costs less than Virtus on sale

Despite being little publicized, the 2026 BYD King has been in dealerships for some time now, complete with new diamond-cut wheels and an ADAS package for the more expensive GS version. Still, the cheapest GL is getting a really interesting promotion: at just under R$170,000, it costs less than a VW Virtus Exclusive painted in metallic (around R$171,700). The offer runs until September 30th and also includes a 0% interest rate on financing.

The King offers nothing but advantages in this case: a midsize sedan, it outperforms the Volkswagen in terms of dimensions, wheelbase, engine, performance, fuel efficiency, and, depending on the model, standard equipment. It's also worth remembering that the King is a plug-in hybrid, meaning it runs solely on electricity, without burning gasoline, while the Virtus is a combustion-only vehicle.
Motorization
The BYD sedan's powertrain includes a 1.5-liter gasoline engine (110 hp) and a front-mounted electric motor (almost 180 hp), with the former acting more as a power generator for the traction batteries (8.3 kWh), providing 35 km of electric range (Inmetro). Together, the King GL's entire powertrain produces 209 hp and 32.2 kgf m of torque, managed by a dedicated automatic transmission (practically a CVT).
According to BYD, the model takes 7.9 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) and reaches a top speed of 185 km/h (115 mph). Combined range, with a full tank (48 liters) and a full battery charge, is 1,175 km (718 mph), according to the manufacturer. Maximum charging power is 3.3 kW.

In the equipment package, the King GL features 17-inch alloy wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, LED optical assembly, twilight sensor, 8.8" digital instrument panel, wireless cell phone charger, synthetic leather seats, driver's seat with electrical adjustments, cruise control, electromechanical handbrake, front and rear parking sensors, proximity key with push-button start, 6 airbags, exterior mirrors with electrical folding and defroster, 12.8" rotating multimedia, 360º camera, NFC key connection, native online GPS, on-board internet option, voice commands ("Hello BYD"), rear air vents and more.
This special price on the 2026 King GL is valid until the end of September, or while supplies last. The plug-in hybrid sedan's warranty is six years with no mileage limit for the vehicle itself, or eight years for the traction batteries.
