BYD aims to have 50% of its parts sourced from Brazil by 2027 and is looking for suppliers.

BYD has already completed its Camaçari factory in Bahia. In early July, it began assembling the first Dolphin Mini, Song Pro, and King DM-i, still on an experimental basis, announcing that the number of units would increase over time. However, the brand is still searching for suppliers...

In a digital conference with members of Abipeças and Sindipeças, the Chinese brand launched the "BYD Wants to Meet You" campaign to select Brazilian suppliers and develop a local supply chain for its manufacturing unit. In other words, it seems that mass production of units isn't that close yet...

In reality, "manufacturing" isn't. Initially, the cars will come from China in the SKD (Semi-Knocked-Down) format, but later they will use domestic stamping, welding, painting, and peripheral components. The Bahia plant, formerly a Ford plant, is capable of producing 150,000 cars per year, but there are plans to double that number in the coming years.
50% nationalization by 2027
The objective of the conversation with Abipeças and Sindipeças is to achieve a target the brand is aiming for in its domestic manufacturing process: to have 50% Brazilian parts and components in its cars by 2027, meaning "in less than two years." According to the company, nearly 300 associates from dozens of Brazilian companies, both in Bahia and elsewhere, are interested in joining the supply chain of components for their cars.

However, neighboring state companies will benefit, according to the Chinese company: in addition to details on the parts and components list, there is a set of tax incentives for its future suppliers in the state of Bahia, to "boost the local production chain and strengthen the industry in the region," it highlights.
The list of items presented to the organizations already includes hundreds of direct and indirect requests, including essential parts such as bumpers, tires, and batteries. The full list of parts will soon be made available to Sindipeças and Abipeças members, he promises .
