Mazda6e: The electric sedan rivaling the Tesla Model 3 with up to 552 km of range

Mazda presents the 100% electric version of its Model 6, the five-door sedan that represents the latest addition to the Japanese manufacturer's range of zero-emission automobiles. After 23 years and three generations, the Mazda6 abandons combustion engines to become the brand's second emission-free model. The new 6e breaks with the previous model, as it shares neither design nor platform. It maintains a large interior space and the classic large sedan structure with a separate trunk. It measures 4.92 meters long, 1.89 meters wide, and 1.48 meters high. And its wheelbase reaches 2.89 meters to provide excellent roominess.
The trunk has a capacity of 466 liters, complemented by another 72-liter front space that the brand calls "frunk" (front trunk) for storing charging cables and medium-sized luggage. The new Mazda fuses a stylized coupé silhouette with the versatility of a five-door hatchback. In other words, its fluid and elegant design doesn't prevent it from becoming an interesting and functional car, a rival to vehicles like the Tesla Model 3 or the BYD Seal.

Mazda gives a new dimension to the Kodo design language, which means "soul of motion," and brings it to life in this electric model with an illuminated front end, flowing lines, and details such as the wing-effect grille and the active rear spoiler. Everything is designed to convey movement and energy, even when the car is stationary. Its most distinctive elements are the illuminated front wing, which not only provides an unmistakable visual signature but is also capable of indicating the battery charge status with a pulsating light, blending aesthetics and functionality. At the rear, an active rear spoiler deploys automatically at speeds of 90 km/h (56 mph), optimizing aerodynamics and reinforcing its sporty character. Details such as the classic Mazda wing-effect grille or the illuminated Mazda logo when opening the vehicle make the Mazda6e a vehicle designed to excite from the first moment.
Other components that take center stage are the large panoramic roof and the interior ambient lighting, with a choice of 64 light colors for a diffuse and nuanced projection with functional interaction that gives it a relaxed, yet modern and technological ambiance.

Mazda offers two versions of its electric sedan. One with standard range, a 68.8 kWh battery, 258 hp, and 479 km of range (WLT approval). In this version, fast charging goes from 10 to 80% in 24 minutes (at 165 kW). The other extended-range version uses an 80 kWh battery, with 245 hp and 552 km of range (WLTP). In this case, charging goes from 10 to 80% in 47 minutes (at 90 kW). Both versions offer rear-wheel drive, three-phase alternating current charging (11 kW), and towing capacity of up to 1,500 kg. Both options also have 320 Nm of torque, reach a top speed of 175 km/h, and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 and 7.8 seconds, respectively. And they have three driving modes: Normal, Sport and Individual.
Mazda revolutionizes the interior of the 6e with two large control screens that eliminate or almost completely eliminate physical buttons, unlike other models from the Hiroshima brand, which still had a rather classic or analog approach compared to the competition, with a more conventional layout of controls and buttons. Now, the focus is on its two screens: the 10.2" instrument panel and the 14.6" central screen, complemented by the Head-Up Display that projects relevant data onto the windshield.
This means that all functions are controlled by touch via the main screen, a radical departure from Mazda's well-thought-out ergonomics, shifting to a fully integrated touchpad. Also notable is the Sony sound system with 14 speakers and subwoofers, offering an immersive experience, even with an external speaker. It also includes voice controls in nine languages, activated by saying "Hey Mazda," along with gesture controls—a first for Mazda.

Inspired by Japanese hospitality, the car offers a unique welcoming experience: upon detecting the key, it deploys the rearview mirrors and handles, unlocks the doors, and activates a choreography of lights in the headlights and taillights. The driver's seat retracts 10 cm to facilitate entry and returns to its position upon sitting down. This same sequence is repeated upon exiting the vehicle, reflecting the attention to detail and the user's well-being.
It also incorporates an advanced navigation system designed specifically for the needs of an electric vehicle. This system not only calculates efficient routes but also anticipates when recharging will be necessary during the journey and recommends the most strategic charging stations along the way.

In addition, Mazda is launching the new "Mazda Charging" app, which gives drivers access to hundreds of thousands of public charging points across Europe. The app offers real-time information on charger availability, power levels, and prices, with complete transparency. It allows charging cycles to be started, stopped, and paid for directly from the app, with full language and currency support, and various payment options without the need for a subscription.
The new Mazda6e arrived at Spanish dealerships this summer with a starting price of €43,725. However, thanks to a special launch campaign, early buyers can purchase it from €38,815, excluding discounts of up to €7,000 under the Moves III Plan. This makes it one of the most competitive options in the European electric vehicle market in terms of value for money.

On the other hand, the Mazda6e is available in two trim levels, Takumi and Takumi Plus, with a difference of 1,650 euros between them, and also offers two range configurations adapted to different types of users. The long-range or extended-range battery option represents an additional cost of only 1,600 euros compared to the standard version. With this range of options, Mazda responds to the real needs of the Spanish market, maintaining its commitment to quality, innovation, and accessibility.
