The location of the new radar to be installed in this Spanish city

In Spain, local governments are responsible for traffic matters within their municipalities, so it is common for councils to install speed control devices , similar to those of the DGT, on their streets with the aim of increasing road safety for their residents .

In the case of Mérida , the City Council itself announced a few days ago in a press release that a radar would be deployed on one of the busiest roads in the capital of Extremadura.

Where is the device located?

According to the Mérida City Council statement, the new fixed radar will be located at the entrance to Reina Sofía Avenue from the Tres Fuentes roundabout , a road that handles more than 12,500 vehicles daily from Monday to Friday, of which around 700 are heavy vehicles , according to the City Council.

Therefore, this speed camera, which will begin operating once the Low Emission Zone ordinance is approved, will serve to ensure that drivers comply with the speed limit established at 50 km/h .

Margin of error of this radar once it is operational

In the case of the Mérida device, Order ICT/155/2020, of February 7, which regulates the state metrological control of certain measuring instruments, addresses this issue in Annex XII, Appendix 1, which also details the requirements that all speed cameras installed in Spain must meet . Table 1 of that same annex specifies the maximum permissible errors during the conformity assessment phase, that is, in the first year of operation.

According to ICT/155/2020 , radars have a margin of error of ± 3 km/h for speeds below 100 km/h. and ± 3% for those exceeding 100 km/h . These tolerances also apply to fixed-position mobile devices and section radars.

Radars active in Extremadura since September 1

In the last batch of August traffic cameras, the DGT (Directorate General of Traffic) launched three section devices in the Extremadura region, which began operating this September. The first radar is located on the EX-09, between kilometers 54.42 and 52.29, descending, near the municipalities of Coria and Moraleja (Cáceres).

The second is located on the EX-110, between kilometers 36.79 and 35.22 , also in a descending direction and very close to Alburquerque (Badajoz). Finally, the third is located on the EX-327, between kilometers 21.94 and 23.60 , in an ascending direction, towards La Roca de la Sierra (Badajoz).
