Stellantis Pro One, the CustomFit program comes alive. And the large electric Van Cargo Box arrives

ATESSA – With the new CustomFit program dedicated to the customization of commercial vehicles under the Fiat, Citroen, Peugeot, Opel, Vauxhall and Ram brands, Stellantis has implemented an ambitious industrial tailoring project in all six of the group's European plants where the vehicles of the Pro One division are produced, assembled and fitted out.

And it has announced the start of production of the electric Cargo Box, a vehicle that has a capacity of 18.3 m³, accompanied by a spacious interior measuring 4,230 mm in length, 2,032 mm in width and 2,150 mm in height. Based on the battery-electric Chassis Cab version, it delivers a maximum torque of 410 Nm and a power of 200 kW (270 hp), and is equipped with a 110 kWh battery that offers a driving range of up to 323?km. Additionally, for customers who need more cargo space, it will also be available in an L4 configuration, which expands the cargo volume to 20.5 m³ with an interior length of 4,500 mm and a height of 2,300 mm.

The presentation of the strategic activity related to the conversions and customizations of commercial vehicles took place in the Atessa factory in Abruzzo which, spread over a surface area of over 1,200,000 square meters and with more than 4,000 employees, produces up to 1,200 vans per day, confirming itself as the largest site in the "Old Continent" in the light commercial vehicles sector.

During the event, the head of the Pro One division Anne Abboud told Repubblica how commercial vehicles “represent an indispensable item in the Stellantis business model in terms of profitability, numbers and positioning. We are firmly in the lead in the South American and European markets with 30.4% of shares (the figure reaches 40% in Italy and 45.1% in Turkey) and our goal - she continues - is to reach global leadership where we currently hold a 12% share”. And to do this, mild hybrid engines will soon arrive in light commercial vehicles too.

Between micro-mobility, pick-ups and vans of various sizes, the fascinating and complex world of commercial vehicles is a business worth 14 million vehicles a year with 1.7 million of them produced by Stellantis. The segment also includes recreational vans such as campers, which in 70% of cases use the Fiat Ducato chassis. The Ducato is in turn one of the main protagonists of the new Custom Fit program created to expand the range of action of the ecosystem relating to the transport of goods and people. The innovation allows customers to configure and order their vehicle online, drawing on a plethora of practical and technical solutions in turn supported by connected services.

In the 5 different areas of the Atessa plant (formerly Sevel) inaugurated in 1981 and appropriately modernized to optimize the advent of on-demand customizations, the workers work daily on 1,200 types of bodies to create 2,645 overall combinations of bespoke vehicles, powered by 14 different engines connected to 4 different gearboxes and then applied to vans with 8 different load capacities. The variety of options also concerns the over 200 colors available and overall, more than 50% of the vehicles are modified

directly in the factory according to the specifications requested by the clients.

To support the Custom Fit program, Stellantis has developed an elaborate and controlled supply chain spread across five continents, focused on efficiency, quality, reliability and both physical and digital supports.

The bespoke fitments always preserve the identity of the 6 Pro One brands and the activity has recently been extended to the second generation of electric vehicles that use preventive maintenance, eco coaching, digital fleet management and real-time traffic updates. All customers (from private individuals to large companies such as Royal Mail) of the Custom Fit can also interface with 20,000 touchpoints and 550 commercial partners while the network dedicated to commercial vehicles currently has 637 Stellantis Pro Centres.

The walk through the assembly lines of Atessa, which in May 2025 reached 7,609,842 vehicles produced, allowed us to observe first-hand the fervent mechatronic, robotic and artisanal operation of the Abruzzo plant that produces the Lcv of the Stellantis group then distributed in 75 countries. In the 18 square kilometers of the Custom Fit area in which 8% of the workforce of the factory in the province of Chieti is present, there are finally 27 production cells aimed at assembling 24 types of cargo boxes and 6 variants of tipper bodies.
