Ferrari Amalfi, the 640 HP V8 berlinetta unveiled

Amalfi is reality. After months of waiting and a name-buzz that seemed uncertain until the last minute, the Prancing Horse company presents the berlinetta 2+ named after the coastal town and is the car that takes the legacy left by Rome with the aim of welcoming new customers to Ferrari. The arrival on the market is scheduled for the first months of next year at a list price starting at 240,000 euros.

"We decided to call it the flag of a renewed sportiness - said Enrico Galliera, Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer - because this is a car (already the Ferrari Roma, this one even more so) with two souls, perhaps the Ferrari car with these two souls most highlighted". The Ferrari Amalfi, in fact, is a car born to embody the typical elegance of the Prancing Horse models with something more. The style, created by the team led by Flavio Manzoni, becomes more essential, abandoning some elements that characterized the Roma, such as the grille at the front.

Furthermore, a Ferrari is also sportiness and Amalfi does not disappoint. It is not extreme, but with its twin-turbo V8 it is able to entertain even the least experienced drivers in complete safety. The heart of the new born is the engine: an update of the well-known Ferrari V8 (considered the best in-house choice for front-mid-engine turbo cars like Amalfi) now equipped with 20 HP more than the Roma and manages to have better elasticity thanks to a review of what are the camshafts as well as the introduction of a control unit developed together with Bosch for engine control, the one we put on the 296 GTB and on the Ferrari 12Cilindri, therefore a control unit that allows us to be much more careful in controlling a single engine activity.

Although it is not extreme, it is a sporty lady: it covers 0-100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and reaches a maximum power of 640 HP and 760 Nm of torque. For optimal delivery, the technicians from Maranello have opted to combine it with an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, revising some software calibrations of the gear change which, thanks to the higher-performance engine, had to be adjusted to give greater sportiness between first and seventh gear and instead maintaining eighth gear as the gear that allows us to have less consumption and fewer emissions in a motorway context. In addition to power, another characterizing factor of Amalfi is its aerodynamics, designed for both the front and rear to always obtain the right downforce. Furthermore, a new active wing with two positions (intermediate and maximum) has been introduced at the rear, capable of generating a load of 110 kg at 250 km/h. Furthermore, still on the technical side, Amalfi adopts, for the first time on this vehicle archetype, the Brake-by-Wire braking system with ABS Evo, a system that allows the braking distance to be reduced by approximately ten and a half metres from 200 to 0 and makes braking repeatable in both wet and dry conditions.

The Amalfi style echoes that of the Roma, maintaining a low, elegant, slim and contemporary beltline. "There is a particular relationship between full and empty spaces that characterizes not only the exterior of the car but also the interior - said Flavio Manzoni, Chief Design Officer - because it is fundamental to understand how these two worlds must speak to each other and must obviously be addressed in a very coherent manner". Compared to the Roma, "We wanted to give it a more avant-garde, more modern, more contemporary line at the same time - continued Manzoni - characterized by some rather incisive lines that are however the result of a clever intersection between the volumes and at the same time a very slim line".

The rear seems to have a style all its own compared to the rest of the car, where the carbon deflector stands out markedly, almost like in the most powerful cars in the range. The interiors feature the new 12.25-inch touchscreen with horizontal haptic feedback. In addition, the physical buttons on the steering wheel return, an element much appreciated for on-board safety and a more natural interaction with the car. A touch of elegance (and sustainability) is introduced in the central tunnel which sees the introduction of anodized aluminum, which is also recycled in compliance with sustainability requirements. Finally, to celebrate the latest addition to the Ferrari family, the designers worked to present a color specifically for the model, coastal green, a tribute to the elegance and unique beauty of Amalfi and a touch of freshness for the car.
