Car registrations in Italy, slowdown in June 2025: -17.4% on sales

If May was a month of substantial stalemate, June saw a sharp slowdown in the Italian automotive market: -17.4% compared to the same period in 2024. According to Unrae data , 132,191 units were registered last month, compared to 160,120 registered the previous year. This figure also implies a decline in the entire first half of the year, with 854,690 new registrations , down 3.6% compared to 886,467 in 2024 and 21.1% compared to pre-pandemic levels. The share of electric vehicles was slightly higher in June, rising to 6% compared to 5.1% in May, while in relation to 2024 there was a significant decline of 40.7%, however due to the presence last year of the release day of car incentives , which then ran out in a few hours.
The growth trend of hybrid cars alone continued in June, especially plug-ins: they rose to 7.2% in the month and 5.3% in the six months , recording a significant increase of 70% compared to the previous year, thanks above all to the regulation on fringe benefits . As mentioned, electric cars stood at 6% in the month and 5.2% in the six months , a share that is still far from the objectives set by the European Union. Hybrids increased, with a share of 43.6% in June and 44.5% since January . In the month just ended, the division was 12.7% for full hybrids and 30.7% for mild hybrids. The decline for internal combustion engines continued: petrol fell to 23.6% (26.1% in the six months), while diesel went to 10% (9.9% January-June) and LPG to 9.6% (9.1% since the beginning of the year).
