The British GP race live | The safety car's second appearance in the race

Formula 1 doesn't rest this week, with its twelfth stop of the year at the British GP at the Silverstone Circuit. Heavy rain fell on the Silverstone circuit, forcing the drivers to stop and change tires. On the second lap, the road conditions forced the virtual safety car (VSC) to be deployed, and on the seventh, Oscar Piastri managed to overtake Verstappen and take the lead. Max Verstappen, who took pole yesterday , is fighting for a first place on the podium, a position the Dutchman hasn't achieved since the Emilia-Romagna GP in May. This Sunday, he's looking for victory to avoid further points dropping in the overall standings, which Oscar Piastri currently leads with 216 points.

On this day in 2008, the British Grand Prix also took place. Lewis Hamilton scored his seventh Formula 1 victory on the day Heikki Kovalainen started from the only pole position of his racing career (he finished 5th).

Carlos Sainz (Williams) arrives in Great Britain after another retirement at the Austrian Grand Prix. He is the driver with the third most retirements on the current grid (40, behind Fernando Alonso (80) and Nico Hulkenberg (42). He has retired in Great Britain three times (2015, 2017, and 2018).

Mercedes has seen at least one of its drivers on the podium in each of the last 12 races at the British Grand Prix, although it was Lewis Hamilton (now at Ferrari) who was the only one not to fail to get on the podium in each of the last 11. George Russell has never made it onto the podium at this Grand Prix, and it is also the one in which he has retired the most times (2, in 2022 and 2024, as many as in Australia, Emilia-Romagna and Singapore).

Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) has missed out on the podium in each of the last 13 Formula 1 races. He has surpassed his worst run without a podium in his racing career: 12 between Sao Paulo 2023 and Canada 2024.

Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) has been on the podium in three of the last four Formula 1 races (one second place and two third places), the same number of times as in his previous 11 starts (one second place and two third places).

Max Verstappen (Red Bull) is fresh off a retirement at the Austrian Grand Prix. He hasn't done so in two races in a single Formula 1 season since 2022 (Australia and Bahrain). The last time he retired in two consecutive races was in 2020, at the Italian and Tuscan Grands Prix.

McLaren has achieved four one-two finishes this season in Formula 1 (Austria, Spain, Miami and China), double the number it has achieved in the last 14 years (Hungary 2024 and Italy 2021). They have not achieved five in a year in the competition since 1998 with Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard (5).

It's expected to rain heavily in the next few minutes, which will cause flooding on the track. It's been raining on the circuit all day. We'll see how it develops when the race starts.

Oscar Piastri (McLaren) has finished each of his last 39 Formula 1 races. If he crosses the finish line in Great Britain, he will become the third driver in the entire history of the competition to finish 40 Grands Prix in a row after Lewis Hamilton (a run of 48 ending in 2020) and Max Verstappen (43 in 2024).

The winner of a Formula 1 race at Silverstone has started from the front row on 40 occasions (22 from pole and 18 from second position, 68.96% of the time), including in each of the last 10 at the British Grand Prix (Max Verstappen finished 4th at the 70th Anniversary GP). Verstappen and Piastri start from these positions today.

The Silverstone circuit will host a Formula 1 race for the 60th time – 58 of those already held have been the British Grand Prix and one the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix in 2020. Only Monza (74) and Monaco (71) have held more.

Good afternoon, and welcome to the British Grand Prix race report! Experience the historic Silverstone circuit in the spotlight for a truly thrilling race!
