An interactive map shows how well each region of the UK does at passing its driving tests. Many learner drivers are bundles of nerves coming up to their driving tests. For some, it takes a few goes to eventually pass it. It turns out that some regions of the UK are better at passing their driving tests than others. This is displayed in a handy interactive map created by Confused.com, which shows one area of the UK as the clear frontrunner.

Although it is the area with the highest rate of people passing their driving tests, that pass rate is only 60%, displaying how tricky driving tests are for hopeful motorists across the UK. According to the experts at Pass Me Fast, only 40% of learner drivers actually pass the first time around, meaning it takes most people at least two goes before they can get their full license. However, drivers in Scotland tend to do better than the rest of the country, according to data provided by Confused.com.

The price comparison experts, who help drivers around the UK find the best rates when it comes to car insurance, revealed that 1 in 4 learners say that knowing their test centre’s pass rate would help them feel more confident on the day. If you are taking your test in Scotland, this will probably ease your nerves quite a bit.

The whole of Scotland has a pass rate of 60%, the highest across the UK. Following Scotland with a pass rate of 58% is Northern Ireland. Meanwhile, the whole of Wales has a pass rate of 56%.

In England, pass rates vary per region of the country. Two regions, the West Midlands and Greater London, have the lowest in the country at just 46%, meaning more than half of driving tests result in a fail.

Yorkshire and the Humber have a pass rate of 50% with half of the tests resulting in a fail. Slightly higher than that is the South East with a pass rate of 51%.

The North West, East of England, and South West have a pass rate of 49%. The experts have given some advice for those who wish to pass their driving test.

Firstly, practice the route in various conditions, including heavy traffic. It may also be helpful to book a lesson right before your test and to take a mock test to get a feel for what it will be like.
