The UK’s busiest motorway is set to face disruption and lane closures from this evening due to a series of roadwork projects. National Highways has confirmed disruption will hit five parts of the M25 motorway with works set to begin from 10pm this evening (Sunday July 27).

Roadworks cover everything from updates to gantries, junction improvements, and safety fence repairs. Officials have confirmed that some diversions will be put into place, with these managed by local authorities. It's the latest in a series of works on the M25, with parts of the road also facing disruption on Friday and Saturday.

First National Highways confirmed works would run from 10pm to 5:30am on the M25 anti-clockwise between junction 10 and junction 9. The M25 anti-clockwise between junction 29 and junction 28 will also face disruption from 10:30pm with “carriageway, entry and exit slip road closures”.

The M25 clockwise between junctions 9 and 10 are also set to suffer with a “carriageway closure” between 10:30pm and 5:30am. The work at junction 10 is part of a major upgrade at the A3 Wisley Interchange set to cost around £317million.

The roadworks are expected to “reduce congestion, improve safety and create more reliable journeys” when the updates are completed in Spring 2026.

According to experts, junction 10 is the busiest section of the M25, with estimates suggesting around 300,000 vehicles pass through every day.

The major new project will see the introduction of a larger roundabout, additional lanes on the A3 towards the M25 and safer routes for cyclists, pedestrians and horse-riders. Meanwhile, the M25 junction 3 roundabout, the Swanley Interchange in Kent, will also be affected by a carriageway closure

The work doesn’t stop there with National Highways confirming a major lane closure, shutting sections of the route between J31 and J1A on the clockwise route from tomorrow evening. Officials have stressed that lanes will shut between the two junctions from 22:00 on 28 July 2025 to 05:30 on 29 July 2025.

However, there are future projects ongoing with work also scheduled for between 23:00 on 1 August 2025 to 06:00 on 2 August 2025.

Work is also planned to start from 22:00 on 4 August 2025 to 05:30 on 5 August 2025 and then again from 23:00 on 15 August 2025 to 06:00 on 16 August 2025.
