Drivers just learn what triangular marking on roads means

Mastering road signs is essential if you want to get a driving license – with both the theory test and practical driving assessments requiring a solid understanding of them.
However, even seasoned drivers can sometimes find the amount of signs baffling as there's so many to remember. And this was definitely the case recently.
That's because people have been left scratching their heads over one triangular marking on the tarmac. Many insisted in a discussion on Reddit that they have "never" seen it before.
The symbol in question is a white triangle with a T-shape running horizontally across it.
One baffled individual said on Reddit: "What is it? To me it looks like a T junction sign but never saw it as a road marking form. Me and my dad can't figure it out or even find it in Google images."
A number of people were also left confused, as one wrote: "I've never seen a road marking like this before. Triangles certainly but not ones like this.
"Warning of approach to a junction is usually a sign on a pole that is easily interpretable. This one smacks of a DIY job that's helping nobody."
Another shocked driver said: "I have been driving for nearly 50 years all over the country. And I have never EVER seen signs randomly painted on the road surface."
So can you work out what it is? Don't worry if not, as people soon took to the comments section to clear things up.
One pointed out that you are more likely to find the sign rural area. They said: "I've seen these used in Lancashire, in the countryside near Preston, quite a lot."
Another suggested: "I can literally see the junction it's warning you about on the left."
One further commenter explained: "It's a T junction sign... But you're right, I feel like they're not normally on the road like this."
One other explained: "It is a legal road marking, just not a widely used one, and more often it's on a sign rather than the surface.
"Being a triangle it is warning you of a danger, that danger is a side road that joins this road with limited visibility, so it's warning someone may pull out without having seen you."
Indeed, signs like this are warning drivers of a hazard up ahead.
They typically include a diagram or rectangular directional sign, indicating the junction type and your destination options. You may also see specific signs like a T-junction or 'give way'.
According to the Highway Code, the exact sign displayed on roads depends on the junction type, your current road, and the direction you want to go.
In other road sign confusion news, some drivers still don't know what a red circle on road signs actually means.
It turns out, people still have a lot to learn!
