Byron Claims Martinsville Cup Series Pole

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — William Byron won the pole for Sunday’s Xfinity 500 NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway.
The Hendrick Motorsports driver turned a lap of 19.286 seconds at 98.185 mph on the .526-mile paperclip-shaped track.
It was his third pole of the season and the 16th of his career.
Joe Gibbs Racing driver Ty Gibbs qualified second in the No. 54 Toyota.
Byron’s Hendrick teammate Kyle Larson will start third, while two-time series champion Joey Logano qualified fourth for Team Penske and Ford.
Denny Hamlin claimed the fifth spot in a second JGR Toyota.
