'I've been a car mechanic for 50 years - this cheap used car will last 500k miles'

Top car mechanic Scotty Kilmer has revealed one of the best second-hand SUVs on the road, with the specialist claiming the vehicle could travel hundreds of thousands of miles. Last year, the leading mechanic released a video which the title claimed to show off three SUVs that Scotty believed could last "500,000 miles or more"
One of these was a Toyota RAV4 with Scotty praising the car as one of the best long-term purchases around. Scotty is a fan of Toyotas and regularly picks them as among his favourite top tips for second-hand car owners to consider. He suggested the car had a "very solid engine" and said the model also has good fuel efficiency.
He even pointed out that the RAV4 doesn't have a turbo fitted, which means the part won’t wear out the car any faster. Scotty also suggested the car’s all-wheel drive system was one of the vehicle’s major selling points.
Speaking on YouTube, he explained: “I know a lot of people who own these things and they have no idea about this [all-wheel drive] system, so those of you who own them, now you know what that little button does.
"Stop the vehicle, push the button, and you now have four-wheel drive up to 20 or 25mph, so you can drive through the snow and ice or go camping or fishing.
"If it ever breaks down, you might be forking out money like no tomorrow, but on the other hand, I've never seen one of these break yet.
“As long as you don't drive through six feet of water and flood the whole car out, it's a really good system. It's been out a while, this one is a 2015, and I've never seen one break."
Looking under the bonnet, Scotty continued to show off the durability of the model with many of the original parts still working.
He said: "When you look inside, you can see, practically everything is the original part. These things last an awful long time, the alternator's original. Here’s one for you, this is the original battery that's still working eight years later.
"As we look inside, truthfully, this is my favourite cloth seats. Look how well they've held up. Leather, you're going to get cracks."
