Reigning Super Stock world champ Jimmy Hidalgo Jr. defeated his Louisiana neighbor Jarrod Granier in the final round with a nearly perfect 9.748 against his 9.74 dial. Granier broke out by .002-second.
After his Super Stock win, Jimmy Hidalgo Jr. was in line for a possible double-up in the Stock final, but following a one-thousandth red-light, Timothy Flechter took the win. Fletcher would have been a handful with a .006 light at the start.
Sherman Adcock Jr. got back into the winner’s circle in Super Comp with his 12th career win, completing the rain-delayed Bristol eliminations at South Georgia Motorsports Park with an 8.93 to 8.94 final-round decision over Rusty Cook.
Keith Mayers made it three straight seasons with a national event win as he wrapped up the Bristol Super Gas event by defeating Colby Fuller, who fouled by a thousandth of a second in the final round.
Chad Taylor is now a five-time NHRA national event winner after his close final round win against Vaughn Cauffield in Right Trailers Top Dragster. Taylor gave up a slight lead at the start but won with a 6.889 on a 6.85 while Cauffield was under his dial by .035-second.
Appearing in his first national event final, Bruce Thaxton scored his first win in Right Trailers Top Sportsman when he stopped world champ Darian Boesch using a 7.468 on his 7.45 dial.
At Friday’s final qualifying from the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Southeast Division event at South Georgia Motorsports Park, Douglas Crumlich of Douglasville, Georgia ran a 6.610 at 211.00 mph in his ’63 Corvette.
