Stellantis and Dongfeng may develop new Jeep

Stellantis and Dongfeng may develop new Jeep

Stellantis and Dongfeng may collaborate on a Jeep electric or plug-in hybrid off-road SUV. It will also feature technology from the M-Hero and Voyah brands.

The information was reported by the Economic Observer website, which writes that a preliminary cooperation agreement may have already been reached between the two parties. This would include the development of high-performance models under the Jeep brand. However, the companies declined to respond to what they classify as "rumors."

Earlier this year, shortly after becoming Stellantis's new CEO, Antonio Filosa visited Hubei province in China, emphasizing his commitment to collaborating with Dongfeng and the Wuhan technology and economic hub. At the time, he also tested vehicles from M-Hero and Voyah.

For this new Chinese Jeep, Stellantis would be responsible for the car's styling . Core technologies, such as the electric propulsion system and autonomous driving systems, would be handled by Dongfeng .

When could the potential car arrive?

Although the partnership is not yet official, according to the same source, the model is expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2027 - with the development cycle estimated to take a year and a half.

More than 30 years of partnership

The joint venture between Stellantis and Dongfeng is far from new. It dates back over 30 years, dating back to the PSA era in 1992.

Ten years later, it expanded to include the entire PSA Group. Jeep joined later when PSA and FCA merged in 2021 and became a Stellantis brand.

With this potential new Jeep, Stellantis and Dongfeng may attempt to relaunch the American brand in China. Stellantis is also seeking to consolidate its presence in that country, but according to Car News China, the car could be launched in other markets later.
