The government will subsidize the purchase of an electric car. How much can you get and how can you use it?

The discussion on the future of motoring in Europe, including the planned ban on the sale of combustion cars from 2035, is still ongoing. The European Union, in order to encourage drivers to choose electric cars, has introduced support programs for buyers. Each member state is implementing its own version of this program, and now Poland has also launched a system of subsidies for the purchase of electric cars.

As reported by the Polish Press Agency, the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOSiGW) is starting a new subsidy program for the purchase and leasing of electric cars on February 3. The maximum subsidy will be PLN 40,000, and the program's budget is PLN 1.6 billion. The funds come from the National Reconstruction Plan, which means they must be used by June 2026.

The support will only cover brand new cars , whose mileage does not exceed 6,000 km and which cost a maximum of PLN 225,000 net (excluding VAT). Additionally, these vehicles cannot be previously registered, although it is possible to buy a demonstration car, used, for example, for test drives. The NaszEauto program is aimed at both individuals and entrepreneurs running a sole proprietorship.

According to PAP, during a press conference with the participation of Krzysztof Bolesta, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Climate and Environment, the details of the NaszEauto program were presented. Support will be provided in the form of a refund of incurred costs , which means that first you must buy a car, register it and buy third-party liability and AC insurance.

It is worth noting that dealer-registered vehicles (pre-registered by an authorized dealer) are not eligible for the program.

In the case of cars taken on lease, a contract must be signed and an initial payment must be made, as well as a vehicle handover protocol must be drawn up. The lease agreement must cover a period of at least two years.

The basic refund amount is PLN 18,750, but it is possible to obtain additional funds depending on the criteria met. People who decide to scrap a used combustion car can receive an additional PLN 10,000. For people with low incomes, not exceeding PLN 135,000 gross per year, a bonus of PLN 11,250 is provided. Additional support is also offered to holders of the Large Family Card (approx. PLN 30,000).

In the case of leasing or renting by an individual, the basic amount of support is PLN 30,000, and an additional PLN 5,000 can be obtained for scrapping an old car and another PLN 5,000 in the case of low income.

Individuals running a sole proprietorship can benefit from a subsidy of PLN 30,000, with the possibility of obtaining an additional PLN 10,000 for scrapping a combustion vehicle.
