Automakers launch dollar credit lines for the purchase of brand new cars.

Automakers launch dollar credit lines for the purchase of brand new cars.

Toyota and Ford became the first brands to offer dollar-denominated credit lines for the purchase of brand-new cars . This adds a new option to the already classic peso-denominated financing options, which are renewed monthly.

These alternatives debut a month after the meeting between the leaders of the major automakers and Economy Minister Luis Caputo, who suggested they "start offering people the option of paying for their vehicles directly in dollars."

Brand-new car sales are going through a strong moment. After June's results, the first half of the year ended as the best in the last seven years , and the year is expected to close at 650,000 units .

For Sebastián Beato, president of the Association of Dealers (ACARA), "very convenient financing, combined with a comprehensive range of models and promotions, and tax cuts and incentive measures" have played a key role in the sector's recovery.

Proposals in dollars

Toyota was the first brand to announce it would finance its cars in dollars . The Japanese brand, which currently ranks second in sales (behind Volkswagen) in the local market, previously offered financing in pesos for the Hilux pickup.

This new measure is offered through an alliance between its financial division and Banco Galicia, and applies to the entire range of domestic and imported models .

The proposal allows financing of up to 90% of the invoice value of cars, pickups and SUVs, through secured loans with rates starting at 9% per annum (TNA) and terms of up to 48 months.

Gustavo Salinas, president of Toyota Argentina, emphasized that "this new financing tool, which facilitates and expands access to Toyota vehicles, will further boost the growth of the automotive sector in 2025. The possibility of financing in dollars boosts the market with another alternative to adapt to the needs of each customer, and favors economic growth."

Ford also allows financing in dollars for the Ranger range, except for the Raptor line. Ford also allows financing in dollars for the Ranger range, except for the Raptor line.

Customers whose business activity is authorized for this type of transaction will be able to access this new line of credit in dollars.

Ford , for its part, also adds the option of financing its domestic Ranger pickup lineup in dollars (except the Raptor), which also has lines of credit in pesos.

Available starting today, through an agreement with ICBC bank, the oval brand offers two proposals for 50% off the suggested retail price of the model .

One at a 0% interest rate (APR) and payable within 12 months; and another at a 4.5% interest rate (APR) with the option to pay over 24 months.
