Volvo to produce Polestar 7 in future factory in Slovenia

Volvo to produce Polestar 7 in future factory in Slovenia

Volvo Cars and Polestar have signed a memorandum of understanding for the development and production of Polestar’s next premium compact SUV at Volvo’s new manufacturing facility under construction in Kosice, Slovakia. The Polestar 7 is a premium battery-powered compact SUV that is due to be launched during 2028. A second car is expected to be built at the Kosice plant, but it is yet to be announced that it will be co-produced at the same plant before the Polestar 7 goes on sale. Polestar’s new compact SUV will offer shared design and performance features on a common technology base with two upcoming Volvo models, including the EX60. It will also benefit from group component sharing, mega casting, cell-to-body technology with next-generation battery density and performance, as well as Volvo’s next-generation in-house developed powertrains. This approach to technology sharing creates economies of scale, driving efficiency and cost benefits. It will also share the benefit of Volvo’s unique development approach, exemplified by the Superset technology stack. The Polestar 7 will benefit from improvements and feature growth through over-the-air updates to a software foundation, core system and cloud infrastructure like the Volvo EX90, ES90, EX60 and Polestar 3, the Polestar 7.
