Uber Launches Women-Only Service in Portugal

After some experiences in a few other countries (France, Germany and Poland in Europe), Uber also introduces in Portugal the possibility for customers to choose exclusively female drivers or, on the part of these latest, only female customers. "Women Drivers" is the name of the service made available by the platform international private car transport and will be available from next Monday, first only in Lisbon and then in rest of the country. Right in Portugal, in November of the year last, the Portuguese entrepreneur Mónica Faneco had tried to launch a similar service through a new platform, Pinker, designed exclusively for drivers and male customers female. Her license, however, was immediately suspended from the Institute of Mobility and Transport (Portuguese counterpart of the Civil Motorization), which considered the practice discriminatory. Uber's new service will however not be easy implementation even for the American multinational, given that in Portugal only 9% of NCC vehicle drivers are women.
