Tragedy in Aragon: 17-year-old Spanish Junior GP rider dies

Nearly three weeks after the passing of Borja Gomez , another loss has struck motorcycling. Pau Alsina Sanchez, a talented young Spanish rider, has died after a serious accident. He was 17 years old. The rider suffered a violent crash during training at the Aragon circuit on Saturday, July 19th. His death was confirmed two days later. Pau competed in the Dunlop Civ Moto3 championship, where he had achieved four podiums in five races, finishing fourth overall. Alsina was also competing in the JuniorGP Moto3 class, a class in which he had made his debut with good results: seventh in the standings, with an eighth-place finish as his best result.
The exact circumstances of the accident are not entirely clear. According to Catalan sources Regio7 and Ona Bages, Alsina crashed on one of the fastest corners of the track, hitting his head hard on the asphalt. Immediately receiving medical attention, he was taken to the nearest hospital in Zaragoza. Today, Pau underwent another emergency operation. Unfortunately, the delicate procedure was not enough to save the young rider.
Originally from Sallent de Llobregat, Catalonia, Alsina inherited his family's passion for motorsports, starting with his father, who was passionate about karting. Pau preferred two-wheeled racing, initially with knobby tires, achieving good results in the Catalan motocross championships. He then transitioned to track racing, starting in 2021 with the European Talent Cup. This year, in addition to performing well in the Italian Championship (CIV), he began racing with the Estrella Galicia team in the JuniorGP Moto3, a preparatory category for entry into the MotoGP World Championship. It was a dream Alsina was meticulously cultivating, as evidenced by his training in Aragon, where he was scheduled to compete next weekend.
