Tesla debuts updated versions of Model S and Model X.

Tesla is reinforcing its increasingly fierce competition with the arrival of updated versions of its two flagship models. Launched in 2012 (the Model X) and 2015 (the Model X), these two cars helped improve the perception of electric cars, which were then considered problematic for a variety of reasons, including limited range, long charging times, disappointing performance, and a less-than-perfect design.

Model S
The timing of Tesla's lineup renewal, which has characterized its choices especially for its two flagship models, the Model S and Model X, is debatable. In 13 years on the market, the changes haven't been revolutionary, at least not in terms of style, while under the hood there has been innovation. The need to contain costs to maintain affordable prices has prevailed. Revolutionizing, perhaps, doesn't mean improving; true change is evolutionary.

Model S
With its skateboard-style architecture, the Model S's design demonstrated that electric vehicles can meet the needs of all drivers and fit into any lifestyle. Meanwhile, the Model X's automatic front doors and more unusual Falcon Wing second-row doors made it easier for the driver and passengers to access the first, second, and third rows. All this combined with the practicality of a high-performance SUV.
The Model S and Model X brought innovations to mass-produced electric vehicles that impacted the cars' functionality. These include the touchscreen that integrates all controls, online software updates that improve functionality over time, fast-charging power with Testa's increasingly widespread Supercharger systems, as well as Driver Assistance features with Autopilot, remote diagnostics, and even connectivity via mobile apps.

Model X
Thirteen years after the production of the first Model S and nine years after the Model X, Tesla has decided to introduce refinements to both vehicles. The updates include a quieter cabin, thanks to insulating and sound-absorbing materials. New 19- and 21-inch wheels are available for the Model S and 20- and 22-inch wheels for the Model X. Additional features now include a new dedicated interface and a camera on the front bumper. Range has also been increased.
