Michelin launches CrossClimate 3, the first all-season sports tire.

Michelin launches CrossClimate 3, the first all-season sports tire.

ROME – Ten years after introducing the CrossClimate – the first summer tire with winter certification – Michelin has unveiled the CrossClimate 3 Sport for performance cars and the CrossClimate 3, designed for a wider range of vehicles.

Both Bibendum innovations work hand in hand with Michelin Alpin tires, creating a tire offering tailored to the needs of every driver during the coldest period of the year. The evolution of the Clermont-Ferrand company's products strengthens the French manufacturer's position in the all-season segment. through tires capable of further raising the bar in performance, overall safety, and mileage. At the same time, compound technology has been developed to adapt to recent changes in the automotive market, with a particular focus on the growth of vehicles powered by multi-energy platforms.

The new Michelin CrossClimate tires also represent an important strategic choice, as the all-season market has grown exponentially both in Italy and across Europe. This growth has come at the expense of summer tires (approximately 75%) while the remaining percentage has impacted the winter segment. At the continental level, 73% of all-season tire sales come from France, Germany, Italy, and the Benelux countries.

Turning to the technical specifications, the CrossClimate 3 Sport offers sporty performance year-round, while also inaugurating a new category on the market as the first all-season sports tire. The compound has been developed to ensure excellent handling on dry surfaces and excellent performance on wet surfaces (confirmed by the European Class A label) and at subzero temperatures. The 3PMSF (Alpine symbol) marking certifies passing a regulatory snow grip test. Among the various technological innovations applied to the product, the Michelin Dynamic Response stands out, featuring a hybrid aramid and nylon belt for improved control. Added to this are the Michelin V-Shape (a "V" design with progressive channels for improved water drainage) and the Thermal Adaptive Tread Compound 2.0, whose compound, developed to adapt to changing weather conditions, combines stiffness and grip. The work is completed by the Michelin Piano Acoustic Tuning, whose block design increases comfort by reducing rolling noise. The CrossClimate 3 Sport is already available in 29 sizes (from 18 to 21 inches) and 30 new sizes are planned for 2026.

Like their sporty counterpart, the CrossClimate 3, available from July 2025 in 63 sizes (from 16 to 22 inches), are poised to become a new benchmark in the all-season tire landscape thanks to the optimal balance of safety, efficiency, and versatility. Designed for compact cars, sedans, and SUVs with internal combustion, hybrid, and electric engines, the tires were developed for safe driving all year round (including on snow). Performance on wet roads has improved by 4%, and the tires have achieved a B braking rating on the European label. Compared to the CrossClimate 2, mileage has increased by 15%, and the 3PMSF marking certifies their approval for severe winter conditions. The compound is also calibrated to support the additional weight and instantaneous torque of electric models, while Michelin Maxtouch technology maximizes contact with the road, distributing forces more evenly.

Michelin's new winter tires thus present a new and expanded lineup that complements the Alpin 7 tires (the French manufacturer's flagship 100% winter tire) to meet the needs of the cold season, covering all segments from passenger cars to SUVs, commercial vehicles, and campers. The All Season CrossClimate range is designed for drivers who only occasionally encounter severe winter driving conditions. The CrossClimate tires meet the needs of drivers who don't need to change tires seasonally. The Alpin range, on the other hand, is designed to best handle icy or snowy roads. All tires in the CrossClimate and Alpin ranges carry both the M+S marking and 3PMSF certification, thus meeting the regulations applicable on various road surfaces.

Finally, both the Michelin CrossClimate 3 and CrossClimate 3 Sport are entirely produced in Europe (including in the Cuneo plant, which confirms its position as a key production hub within the Michelin Group in terms of innovation and industrialisation) and intended for the Old Continent.
