Martin, bad period: he hurts his other hand and misses the MotoGP opener in Thailand

Martin, bad period: he hurts his other hand and misses the MotoGP opener in Thailand

What world champion Jorge Martin may have done to deserve so much bad luck, perhaps only Fate (with a capital F, in the style of ancient Greece) will tell us one day: the harsh reality is limited to certifying the second hand injury for the Spanish rider who moved to Aprilia at the end of the victorious 2024 MotoGP World Championship. This time the injured hand is the left, after the right had come out battered from a double fall in the Sepang tests at the beginning of February. When he was already on the way back, about to leave again for Southeast Asia, Martin will instead have to postpone his debut in the 2025 World Championship: no Thailand GP, first weekend of the year.

The news of the new injury was reported by the website motorsport.com. Martin had fallen on the Malaysian circuit with his Aprilia RS-GP on February 5, suffering damage to his right hand and left foot. Back in Europe, on February 7 he had surgery in Barcelona, immediately starting rehabilitation so as not to miss the start of the MotoGP World Championship set for the weekend of February 28-March 2. Instead, today, February 24, Martin was injured again, suffering a fracture to his left hand that will be operated on tomorrow, Tuesday, February 25: the mandatory stop that will make him miss the first GP of the year in Thailand, on the Buriram circuit. The Spaniard has already had to miss the second test session, held in Thailand on February 12 and 13, due to the first injury.
