Car sales in Italy are growing: +2.7% in April 2025

Signs of recovery for the Italian automotive market , in April 2025 growing by 2.7% compared to the same month of 2024. In detail, there were 139,084 registrations against 135,415 a year ago. The second monthly growth of 2025 allows the Italian market to reduce to -0.6% the gap with the first four months of 2024, when 586,735 license plates were registered against 583,038 this year. Among the less positive data is the comparison with the volumes of 2019, with the gap widening again given the -18.2% of April against the -17.5% of March. The month just ended was positive both for electric cars , which did not shine but improved compared to 2024, and for plug-in hybrids , which are starting to gain ground thanks to the ever-increasing electric autonomy offered by the new models of various Asian and European manufacturers.

April confirms the consolidated trend for all the most popular fuels in Italy, with the exception of the growth of plug-in hybrids , which reach 5.7% of diffusion, improving both on the previous month (4.5%) and on April 2024 (3.3%). The decline of more traditional fuels does not stop, the petrol engine drops 3.6% in April to fall to 26.7% in the four-month period (-4.1% compared to January-April 2024). Diesel stops in the month of April at 9.9% share, to fall back to 9.8% in January-April (-5.2%). LPG drops 1.3 points in April, but is substantially stable in the cumulative (-0.5%). The rise of hybrid vehicles continues, rising to 44.3% share in the month of April (+4.6%) and to 44.9% in January-April (+6.3%): 12.7% thanks to full-hybrid and 31.6% to mild-hybrid. Electric cars grew by 2.5% in the month to settle at 5.1% share in January-April.
