MotoGP. Marc Marquez wins the sprint race in Hungary

Spaniard Marc Marquez (Ducati) won the sprint race of the Hungarian Grand Prix, the 14th round of 22 in the MotoGP season, securing his 13th consecutive victory on Saturday at the Balaton Park circuit in Balatonfokajar.

The six-time world champion, who started from pole position, held the lead into the first corner before widening the gap on his pursuers to win without a hitch.

"I heard that someone was very close to me at the first corner (the Frenchman Fabio Quartararo, who almost hit him, editor's note), but then I quickly found a fast rhythm and tried to stay consistent. I'm very happy with this victory. Now we'll analyze everything for tomorrow's race (Sunday), especially tire wear," explained the Catalan.

Marc Marquez, who claimed his 13th victory in 14 sprint races this season, finished ahead of the two Italian riders of the Ducati-VR46 team, Fabio Di Giannantonio and Franco Morbidelli.

152 points ahead for Marc Marquez

The Spaniard extended his lead at the top of the world championship to 152 points, ahead of his younger brother Alex Marquez (Ducati-Gresini), who was only eighth on Saturday.

Marc Marquez's Italian teammate Francesco Bagnaia on the factory Ducati team failed to score a single point after finishing 13th. The two-time world champion had failed to qualify late in the morning, only managing the 15th fastest time.

Honda achieved its best team result of the season with fourth place for Italian Luca Marini and sixth for Spaniard Joan Mir, while Spanish rookie Fermin Aldeguer (Ducati-Gresini) slotted in between the two Japanese bikes.

Italy's Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia) took seventh place, ahead of Alex Marquez and reigning Spanish world champion Jorge Martin (Aprilia), who scored the final point at stake after starting only 17th.

The race for the two French riders, however, ended only a few seconds later. Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), who started in sixth position, braked too late at the apex of the first corner and fell after hitting the Italian Enea Bastianini (KTM-Tech3).

The latter managed to continue on his way, but a few turns later, he knocked Johann Zarco (Honda-LCR), who had started from 18th place, down by hitting him from behind.
