Occasionally, the numerous car auctions held around the world bring to light such special examples that they spark the interest of the most exclusive collectors. These cars are often so important to the automotive industry that, whenever they come up for sale, they always fetch high prices.

If we focus on American-made cars, the list of sought-after parts isn't as long as it is on our continent. But in any case, there's no doubt that the Ford Mustang Mach 1 Twister Special is among the favorites.

Considered by many to be one of the most coveted variants of the Blue Oval brand's muscle car, this vehicle has everything it needs to become a true collector's item. Developed based on the 1970 Mach 1, this unusual Twister Special version was specifically designed to honor the Kansas City drivers.

Thus, its name was inspired by the frequent tornadoes in this part of the United States, and it even featured special tornado decorations on the body. Only 96 units of this version were built, all of them in Grabber Orange, with a black stripe on the hood and both sides. However, as striking as these aesthetic features were, the mechanicals of each of these models were even more so.

Ford initially planned for all limited-edition units to be built with the 428 Super Cobra Jet engine, but since there weren't many available, only half were equipped with it. The other half were equipped with the 5.8-liter Cleveland engine.

All of them, without exception, featured the Drag Pack suspension system, Ford's most advanced at the time. The Twister Special in the photos has barely traveled over 100,000 km and is one of only 48 units powered by the highly regarded Cleveland engine.

It's also worth noting that this model is one of only 13 that still retains its original engine and transmission. This 1970 Mustang Mach 1 Twister Special will soon be changing hands, as it will be auctioned off by Mecum Auctions specialists later this July.
