Teaser for the Opel IAA study (2025) shows illuminated visor

Teaser for the Opel IAA study (2025) shows illuminated visor

In Rüsselsheim, people are always a little exuberant when something new happens. When the Opel Mokka introduced its new brand face in 2021, the PR department raved about a new element that sits like "a protective visor over the new Opel face": "Like a full-face helmet."

Admittedly, the Opel Vizor, inspired by the Manta A, restores a bit of character to the Rüsselsheim creations, distancing them from their recent rather staid GM reign. The design element can now be seen on all vehicles. So, it's time to bring the thing into the modern age with a—in Opel slang—"sensational" design study for the IAA Mobility in Munich.

The Rüsselsheim-based company already showcased another element harking back to the past with its 2020 brand concept, the Opel GT X Experimental . The Opel Compass encompassed a number of design tweaks at the front that were intended to give the cars more contour. These included the horizontal visor and the pointed vertical line on the hood, at the intersection of which the Opel lightning bolt is emblazoned.

A new concept car will be unveiled at the IAA in September, showcasing these enhanced design elements and offering a glimpse into Opel's future. The concept car will clearly reflect Opel's high-performance GSE sub-brand. The first production model will be the Mokka GSE, which our esteemed editor-in-chief recently got up close and personal with . The name of the concept car, however, is still a "well-kept secret," but will be revealed soon with further details.

"Our new concept car will once again make hearts race. It will provide the first hints of future models. With its breathtaking design, it will delight car enthusiasts around the globe. More details to follow soon—stay tuned," says Opel CEO Florian Huettl.

A handful of images show the obvious developments, such as the Opel visor. The team led by design chief Mark Adams has now sharpened the compass even further. In the center, a trendy illuminated Opel lightning bolt is emblazoned, flanked by further illuminated horizontal lines in the grille (sorry, in the visor). A red illuminated Opel logo is also visible in another photo.

There's also a lot of yellow, reminiscent of the recently introduced high-performance GSE sub-brand. In the concept car, we see the new GSE logo on a sleek, racing-inspired steering wheel. Aerodynamic wheels with triangular elements and yellow accents also hint at a sports car. The triangles are meant to be a reference to the Opel Manta 400, which once competed on rally tracks around the world.

More about Opel:

Opel is also showing off a futuristic and minimalist-designed lightweight driver's seat. A roll cage can be seen in the background of the photo. According to the Rüsselsheim-based company, the concept vehicle is designed to be visibly comfortable on the racetrack, yet still offer a "comfortable and safe driving experience."

So let's wait and see what's in store for us in the next few days. The design study can then be viewed in person for the first time at the IAA Mobility in Munich from September 8 to 14, 2025.
