Renault Clio (2026): The interior of the 6th generation in detail

The new Renault Clio celebrated its world premiere this week at the IAA Mobility in Munich. The exterior design has evolved, but the interior has also been completely redesigned.

So let's take a detailed look at the new features in the interior of the sixth generation of Europe's popular small car , the Renault Clio .

The dashboard

The radical innovations begin with the dashboard of the new Clio. The vertical infotainment screen in the center is gone. A combination of two 10.1-inch dual displays now provides the best view of information and data. The centrally positioned screen has been discreetly positioned toward the driver – a feature familiar from the Renault 5 .

The steering wheel, however, is something we've seen before in higher-end Renault models—for example, in the Austral . It features various controls in the spokes, and the lever for selecting the automatic transmission's gears is located behind the steering wheel.

Of course, we can't avoid scenic details in the 2020s, such as ambient lighting. Thanks to a Multi-Sense system, this can shine in 48 different colors. This allows the atmosphere to be personalized or linked to various driving modes.

In the higher trim levels—such as the Esprit Alpine—the dashboard is covered in Alcantara. Inserts have been given a new chrome finish that creates an exclusive metallic effect.

Materials and surfaces

The choice of materials reflects Renault's commitment to eco-design. The seats are made of recycled fabrics with contrasting graphics and stitching, while the dashboard is made of up to 50 percent recycled polypropylene.

The Esprit Alpine uses 33.7 percent of environmentally friendly materials, and half of the 18-inch wheels are made from recycled aluminum.

In addition to sustainability, comfort is also not neglected: soft-touch surfaces, well-maintained upholstery and an overall bright ambience thanks to transparent, backlit inserts in the door panels.

Space usage and luggage compartment

The Clio's interior offers space for five people and features new, practical, and functional storage compartments. There's a compartment in the center console with a flexible lid reminiscent of a tablet case. There are also two USB-C outlets in the front, a 12-volt outlet in the rear, and, depending on the version, an inductive charging tray for smartphones.

Compared to its predecessor, the new Clio benefits from the increased length, especially in the rear. Our first test drive at the IAA confirms: there's finally enough legroom.

The trunk has a capacity of 391 liters (essentially unchanged from current models). This means the Clio continues to offer one of the largest luggage compartments in its class. Compared to the previous model, the loading sill has been lowered by 40 millimeters to make it easier to lift objects into the vehicle.

But the new model obviously does something worse in the trunk than the fifth generation for cost reasons: "Unfortunately, the sturdy pull handle has been replaced by a cheaper solution," says colleague Roland Hildebrandt in the aforementioned test drive.
