BMW 540i xDrive Legacy Edition: Rare six-cylinder for Canada

Sometimes we look longingly to other parts of the world. Because there are cars or model variants there that we would also like to have here. Like this special BMW 5 Series. The "Legacy Edition" in Canada commemorates the 540i from the E34 series. More specifically, the M540i, of which only 32 examples were made exclusively for Canada in 1995.
BMW Canada is proud to announce the return of a true icon with the introduction of the 2026 BMW 540i xDrive Legacy Edition. This exclusive edition of the sedan reintroduces a highly sought-after variant to the Canadian 5 Series (G60) for a limited time.
The BMW 540i xDrive Legacy Edition is powered by the legendary 3.0-liter BMW TwinPower Turbo inline six-cylinder engine, producing 381 hp and 540 Nm of torque (how fitting!). Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, the 540i xDrive accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds. The intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive system ensures optimal traction and stability, making it the perfect companion for Canadian driving conditions.
Inside, the vehicle offers a luxurious and spacious interior with high-quality materials and advanced technology. BMW iDrive with the 8.5 operating system and the BMW Curved Display offer seamless connectivity and intuitive control, while the 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System enhances the driving experience with premium audio quality.

Limited to 151 units, this special edition has been carefully curated for customers who value both tradition and performance.
The 2026 BMW 540i xDrive Legacy Edition has been available for order in Canada since June 18, with deliveries expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025. Only 151 units are planned.
