MotoGP LIVE today: All news about qualifying in Assen in the live ticker

After Friday's crash orgy, we're hoping for excitement instead of accidents at Assen. MotoGP qualifying and the sprint are coming up. Saturday's live ticker.
Tobias Mühlbauer
Q2 will begin soon. Despite yesterday's crashes, Marc Marquez is once again the favorite, but the competition seems to be wide-ranging this time. Quartararo has positioned himself, and Bagnaia also looks strong. Bezzecchi, Acosta, and Vinales are also in the mix. And then there's another Marquez, too. We're excited.
1st Qualifying, Cloudy
We must give a big thumbs-up to reserve rider Lorenzo Savadori. The Aprilia rider will start 15th, leaving many regular riders behind. Brad Binder and Enea Bastianini are second. Completing the starting grid are Oliveira 18th, Rins 19th, Ogura 20th, Espargaro 21st, and Chantra 22nd. That could change, however, if Bastianini receives a penalty for holding up Rins.
Things got really exciting again. Raul Fernandez set the fastest time, and he had Joan Mir in tow. The former world champion was only 44 thousandths of a second slower. Aldeguer was under pressure, but he delivered again. The rookie finished 4 thousandths of a second faster than his compatriot and secured second place. Jack Miller, in fourth place, was unable to intervene.
Now Fermin Aldeguer is on the scene. He sets a new best time, but only 19 thousandths of a second ahead of Fernandez. The battle for the two Q2 spots is once again getting exciting.
The second runs are coming up, and one driver is under double pressure. Enea Bastianini doesn't have time yet because his lap was canceled. He also held up Alex Rins, which greatly angered the Spaniard. The stewards are investigating the incident.
Trackhouse Racing made headlines in the opening minutes. The duo were racing closely behind each other. While Raul Fernandez took the lead, Ai Ogura crashed. Fortunately, the Japanese driver was unharmed. Joan Mir was second. Fermin Aldeguer was only ninth, so he had to do much better.
Q1 is open. You now have 15 minutes to secure one of the two qualifying tickets.
Q1 begins soon. Fermin Aldeguer on the Ducati looks like a clear favorite. Who else could prevail? Raul Fernandez has been doing well so far, and Jack Miller and Alex Rins on the Yamaha are also likely to be strong contenders.
In the end , Fabio Quartararo pulls out another one. He takes two tenths off Bagnaia. He's got a relatively fresh tire on the rear, having completed eight laps, but the front has already completed 22 laps. That's an impressive time from 'El Diablo'. With Acosta in third and Bezzecchi in fourth, we have all brands represented at the front except Honda. This promises to be exciting for qualifying, which begins with Q1 at 10:50 a.m.
2nd Free Practice, Partly cloudy
There are still improvements, despite the older tires. Pedro Acosta almost takes the fastest time, just 20 thousandths of a second behind Bagnaia. Fabio Quartararo jumps to fourth place. The two VR46 drivers also improved their performance.
Things are coming to life again, but the drivers aren't keen on fresh soft tires. Only the rear has a few newer rubbers; otherwise, everything else has been done for ten laps or more. So, of course, a new best time is rather unlikely. Nine minutes left on the clock.
A large part of the field has finished the first run and is in the pits. Maverick Vinales started a little later after his medium attempt, and he's riding fast. With his final lap, he moved up to fifth place. This leaves us only one Honda behind at the front. Joan Mir is currently best in 14th place. Meanwhile, Marc Marquez is having his own problems after yesterday's crashes, but see for yourself:
The picture is very similar to yesterday's practice. Bagnaia is still in front, but the others have closed the gap. Bezzecchi remains second, ahead of Marc Marquez and Fabio Quartararo. Behind Fermin Aldeguer, Alex Marquez is in sixth. Then come the KTMs of Acosta and Vinales.
Francesco Bagnaia loves Assen, and he's showing us just that here. He's taken almost three-tenths off his friend Marco Bezzecchi. Meanwhile, Maverick Vinales has come into the pits to get some soft tires. At least he didn't crash.
Yesterday's crashes were attributed to the medium tire not being able to get up to temperature. That's why everyone here, except for one, is using the soft tire, including many used tires. The one brave rider on the medium is Maverick Vinales . We'll see how he fares.
The MotoGP riders are getting into their saddles and heading out onto the track. Let's hope there aren't too many crashes today.
Now we come to the premier class. The second free practice session of the MotoGP begins at 10:10 a.m. After the 30-minute session, qualifying continues directly.
A rookie impresses in the final stages. Ivan Ortola takes the fastest time, albeit only 5 thousandths of a second ahead of Aron Canet. Manuel Gonzalez, in third place, is also only 33 thousandths of a second behind. Baltus takes fourth. For the Fantic duo of Canet and Baltus, the session also ended with crashes, but fortunately, they were of a harmless nature.
Indeed, the race is now underway again in the final stages. Baltus still holds the fastest time, but Canet, Agius, and Arenas have closed the gap to within a tenth of a second.
Our time monitor is mostly gray. Longer runs are now being completed in preparation for the race. Ten minutes left on the clock. Maybe someone is putting on fresh tires to prepare for qualifying.
Barry Baltus has added another stance. The two title contenders can't keep up. Aron Canet is in second, three-tenths behind. Manuel Gonzalez is third, but already four-tenths behind. A strong start for the Belgian, who is still looking for his first Moto2 victory.
Barry Baltus is the fastest man in the opening laps. Filip Salac confirms his strong form from Friday with second place. Meanwhile, Jorge Navarro suffers his second crash of the weekend in the Geert Timmer chicane.
The traffic lights change, and the rush onto the track begins immediately. Fans are rooting for two local heroes, Zonta van den Goorbergh and Collin Veijer.
And it continues straight away with Moto2 . After yesterday's almost hour-long delay, the intermediate class will be able to get started on time this time. Starting at 9:25 a.m., there will be another 30-minute free practice session.
The final practice session before qualifying is over. David Almansa remains on the fastest time. Behind him, we have two drivers again on the same time. This time it's Adrian Fernandez and Jose Rueda. Angel Piqueras only managed 24th place. Dennis Foggia retired at the end with a technical problem. Perhaps he simply ran out of fuel.
Now Angel Piqueras is finally back in the race. But what he's driving isn't fast. The World Championship runner-up is currently in 22nd place. Jose Rueda has moved up to sixth. Five minutes remain on the clock.
Jakob Rosenthaler (currently in 21st place) isn't the only reserve driver this weekend. Italian Leonardo Abruzzo makes his MLav debut, standing in for the injured Vincente Perez. He's now familiarized with the gravel trap, but can continue. Meanwhile, Almansa extends his lead slightly. Piqueras is still off the track.
David Almansa sets the early fastest time. He's more than two-tenths faster than the rookie duo of Max Quiles and Alvaro Carpe, who are on the same time. Things aren't going so well for David Munoz, who ends up in the gravel trap. The Intact rider is now trying to get his bike back to the pits. Angel Piqueras also appears to be having a problem. He returned to the pits immediately after his out lap and hasn't appeared since.
The track has been cleared, and this Saturday in Assen has officially begun. The Moto3 riders are heading out immediately. They'll be happy to be able to train in dry conditions. They have 30 minutes at their disposal.
In contrast to yesterday, we start the day with blue skies. And for a morning in Assen, it's actually quite warm. The thermometer shows 19 degrees Celsius.
