Audi Q5 SUV and Sportback e-hybrid (2025): New plug-in hybrids

Audi is expanding the new Q5 family: In addition to the combustion engines with MHEV plus technology, the SUV and Sportback will also be launched as updated plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models. The additional model name is officially "e-hybrid quattro." The new generation of high-voltage batteries in the Audi Q5 e-hybrid models has a capacity increase of approximately 45 percent.
Like the A5 , the plug-in hybrid models offer up to 270 kW (367 hp) of system power and an electric range of up to 100 kilometers. The only disadvantage compared to the A3 PHEV is charging.
The new Audi Q5 SUV e-hybrid quattro and the Q5 Sportback e-hybrid quattro are each available in two power outputs: 220 kW and 270 kW. They are powered by a 2.0 TFSI engine with an output of 185 kW and an electric motor. The 270 kW version accelerates the SUV and Sportback from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds.
The 220 kW versions accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds. All variants reach a top speed of 250 km/h. The electrified dual-clutch transmission, combined with the quattro ultra drive system, ensures a sporty yet comfortable driving experience.
A new development is the high-voltage battery, whose cells are arranged in two stacked layers in the Q5 e-hybrid. Audi has increased its capacity by around 45 percent compared to its predecessor, at 25.9 kWh (net 20.7 kWh). The maximum AC charging power is 11 kW. If the battery is completely empty, charging to 100 percent takes 2.5 hours. However, there is no DC fast charging with up to 50 kW like in the A3.

Two operating modes are available: "EV" and "Hybrid." In EV mode, the SUV and Sportback run entirely on electric power. When driving in hybrid mode, the hybrid management system maintains the charge level at a constant value as needed to save enough electrical energy for later use. In addition to the automatic hybrid mode, the desired charge level can now be individually selected using a digital slider.
Audi has also significantly increased recuperation performance. The degree of coasting recuperation can be adjusted to three levels in EV mode using paddles on the steering wheel. When activated, the vehicle automatically recuperates. The parameters for this are route data stored in the navigation system. Both Q5s can automatically recuperate even without active route guidance. The hybrid management of the new models automatically selects the optimal operating strategy.
Both e-hybrid models are distinguished primarily by their upgraded standard equipment. These include the S sport suspension and 3-zone automatic climate control in the 220 kW power variant. Those opting for the 270 kW power variant receive LED headlights plus with LED taillights pro as standard.

The MMI experience plus infotainment system, also standard, features the Audi Application Store, a smartphone interface, and an Audi sound system. The S line interior package with black leather/leatherette combination sport seats, 19-inch 10-spoke aero alloy wheels, and red-painted brake calipers is standard. A particularly practical feature is the fully adjustable rear seat plus. It can be adjusted both lengthwise and in terms of angle.
The Audi Q5 SUV e-hybrid quattro with 220 kW system output is available in Germany starting at €63,400. Prices for the Q5 Sportback e-hybrid quattro start at €65,900. The SUV variant with 270 kW system output costs from €71,800. Prices for the Q5 Sportback in the higher output range start at €74,300. The new PHEV models, which will be produced in San José Chiapa, Mexico, will be available to order in Europe from mid-June 2025. Market launch is planned for the third quarter.
