Motorsport7 > Browns QB Watson Likely Out for Season Due to Achilles Injury; Teammates Disappointed, Some Fans CelebrateCLEVELAND -- Deshaun Watson's time with the Cleveland Browns has reached another significant setback as he suffered a likely season-ending Achilles injury during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Watson was carted off the field after collapsing on a noncontact play with just over a minute left in the first half. Browns coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that test results suggest Watson's injury is serious, potentially ending his season.
Since joining the Browns in 2022, Watson has faced criticism for his performance and has been marred by off-field controversies, including allegations of sexual assault and harassment. He has not met expectations during his time in Cleveland, with fans expressing their frustrations, particularly evident when some cheered his injury and called for backup quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
Myles Garrett, the NFL's reigning Defensive Player of the Year, condemned the fans' reaction, stating that no one deserves to be booed during their downfall. Similarly, third-string quarterback Jameis Winston expressed dismay at the fan response, emphasizing the need for support in difficult times.
Watson signed a fully guaranteed $230 million contract but faced an 11-game suspension in his first season and a shoulder injury that limited his performance last year. Prior to his injury against the Bengals, he completed 15 of 17 passes for 128 yards.
The Browns traded three first-round picks to obtain Watson, whose performance has often overshadowed by off-field issues, including ongoing investigations into his behavior.
