Southeast Gassers Invade Brainerd Motorsports Park For Southern Nats

Summer break is over, and the Southeast Gassers Association (SEGA) is set to resume its 2025 championship season with the fourth race of the year at Brainerd Motorsports Park in Ringgold, Georgia. The highly anticipated Southern Nationals presented by Harbin’s Mechanical Services will take place August 1–2 and marks a pivotal mid-season stop on the SEGA tour.
Located just south of the Tennessee-Georgia state line off Interstate 75, Brainerd Motorsports Park is a facility rich in both regional drag racing heritage and SEGA history. In 2024, the track hosted the season opener; this year, it will serve as a turning point in several tight championship battles across SEGA’s period-correct divisions, including A/FX, H/Gas, Super Stock, C/Gas, B/Gas, and A/Gas.
A/Gas is currently led by Leslie Horne, who has claimed two wins this season, including a victory at the most recent event in Knoxville.
In B/Gas, Ken Rainwater has also scored back-to-back wins at Shadyside and Knoxville, giving him the edge atop the standings.
C/Gas is shaping up to be one of the season’s most competitive classes, with Jerren Perdue and Ernie Smith tied for the lead. Smith will make SEGA history at Brainerd as the first driver to achieve 100 consecutive competition starts.
Super Stock continues to be dominated by Jerry Dean, who has maintained a perfect record in 2025 after winning each race so far.
In H/Gas, Robert Fraizer holds the points lead with his Volvo, but a new contender, Colby Welch, made a statement in Knoxville with a win in his Pontiac-powered Anglia known as The Little Indian.
The A/FX class follows a unique format where points are assigned to the car rather than the driver. The top-ranked entry, Southern Comfort, has wins under both Todd Wimberly and 2024 B/Gas champion Daniel Haynes, who drove the car to victory in Knoxville.
Event activities kick off Friday, August 1st, with a Test & Tune session at 5:00 PM ET. Racing resumes on Saturday, August 2nd, with two rounds of qualifying starting at 1:00 PM, followed immediately by eliminations.
