Save fuel by pressing ‘one simple button’ located in every vehicle

Petrol and diesel owners have been told they can “save fuel” this summer by pressing a simple switch located on the dashboards of every vehicle. Motorists may not be aware of how important pushing the recirculation button could be on fuel efficiency.

The recirculation switch rotates the air already inside the vehicle which takes up less strain than cooling air from outside. By reducing the workload of the air conditioning system, road users will notice a vehicle can travel further on one tank. Punching the button is more effective in hot weather when the outside temperature is significantly higher than road users would like inside their cabins.

YouTube channel @antosvids said: “Today I'm going to show you how to save fuel by pressing one simple button in your car.

"It's this little button here, which is the air recirculation button. If you’re using your air con and you use this button it helps reduce the strain on the system.

“It also helps stop pollen coming from outside. It can save fuel by reducing the strain. So if you want to save the fuel in your car, press this little button here.”

However, road users have been warned that the switch should not be permanently left on as this could backfire.

As a general rule, motorists should switch off the tool when the weather is slightly colder as the benefits are not as effective.

Meanwhile, experts warn that the recirculation button can trap moisture inside the vehicle that may cause windscreens to mist up over time.

Despite this Eden Tyres and Servicing explained road users could enjoy several benefits by using the tool over the summer.

They said: “If you don’t switch the air-recirculation button on then your air-con will be constantly cooling warm air from outside your vehicle and will have to work much harder, putting more stress on the blower & air compressor.

"It works by recirculating the cool air you get from your A/C when you first turn it on.

"The longer it’s on for, the cooler your vehicle will get! If you don’t use it, the car will use the air from the outside that is a lot warmer, and your A/C will work harder and continuously to cool the hot air.

"If your AC has to work harder, you’ll increase fuel consumption and your cabin won’t reach its optimum level of coldness from the air-con system. You will also be putting undue wear-and-tear on your A/C compressor."
