Popular garage with 200 branches to shut down one location in major blow for motorists

A garage with 200 branches across the UK has confirmed the closure of one of its sites. Halfords said the garage will shut following a "review of our estate" but it is not known how many jobs will be affected.

The National Tyres and Autocare garage on Oxford Street in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, has served local motorists for years. It is part of the Halfords chain and offers a range of vehicle repair services, MOT testing, car servicing and vehicle safety inspections. According to The Sun, Halfords is offering staff alternative roles at other garages nearby.

A spokesman for Halfords told the Northants Telegraph: "We can confirm our National Tyres and Autocare garage on Oxford Street in Wellingborough will close following a review of our estate in the area.

"We are committed to supporting impacted colleagues and are offering alternative roles at nearby Halford locations where possible.

"We'd like to thank our customers for their continued support and hope to welcome them at our Halfords Autocare garage on Turnells Mill Lane, Victoria Trade Park, which is just a six minute drive away.

"Customers can also use Halfords Mobile Expert service for tyre fittings, battery replacements, and other essentials right at their doorstep."

The Wellingborough garage was a trusted site for local drivers. It has a 4.3 out of 5 star rating on Google from 224 reviews.

One reviewer said: "Exceptional service received from this company. All of the mechanics & staff were very friendly and professional. The level of communication before my MOT and on the day was great and straightforward. I'd definitely recommend this Autocare Centre."

A second added: "Great old fashion service that hardly exists these days." Others praised the garage's "brilliant service" and "super friendly and helpful team".

It comes after Halfords announced the closure of its Broughty Ferry site in Dundee earlier this month. Halfords is also braced to close its garage in Tweedmouth on June 5.

The business once again cited a review of their estate as the reason for both closures.
