Major car brand 'issues recall for six models' with UK drivers affected

Renault has confirmed a recall notice affecting six models due to a potentially dangerous car defect. According to AutoExpress, the issue is related to the car's electronic parking brake system. Renault have told Express.co.uk that 100 cars in the UK are believed to be impacted by the latest action, with six model ranges affected including the Megane E-Tech.
In total, the marque confimed that that 11 Renault Austral, 7 Captur, 23 Megane E-Tech, 40 Scenic E-Tech, 16 Symbioz and three Rafale models are affected. Meanwhile, six Dacia Dusters are also caught up in the latest problem in a headache for owners. It is understood that model's affected were all built by the French brand between April 2024 and January 2025.
The main cause of the issue is believed to stem from an incorrectly angled position sensor placed inside the parking brake actuator. AutoExpress warned that this can lead to the stopping pin being placed incorrectly, meaning the parking brake is properly engaged when motorists press the P button.
There are fears that the issue could increase the risk of the vehicle rolling unexpectedly in a major concern for owners. Specialists have claimed the French manufacturer is currently in the process of contacting owners of vehicles involved.
Renault has confirmed to Express.co.uk that owners will be informed and the cars fixed in due course.
Although road users don’t have to do anything extra at this stage, concerned owners can get in touch with a Renault dealer. Owners may also be able to find more information or details on whether their vehicle is involved through Renault’s recalls site.
Customers will simply need to enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), usually found on the inside of the door frame or stamped on the dashboard, to check if their particular model is included in a recall. Renault has previously confirmed that any repairs undertaken through a recall notice would be offered to customers completely free.
The French brand previously said: “Recall campaigns are deployed as a preventive measure and focus on a specific group of vehicles that have been identified as potentially demonstrating a specific fault, which could affect the safety of the vehicle’s occupants and other road users.
“The operation consists of a check to identify whether the relevant fault exists on the vehicle followed by repairs if required. Where you are notified of a Recall outstanding on your vehicle, it is essential that you contact your Renault Retailer as soon as possible.”
The Express has contacted Renault for a comment.
